Introducing a hot twist to your pork belly indulgence with our Spicy Doenjang-Gochujang Dipping Sauce recipe! This delicious blend combines the richness of Doenjang, a Korean fermented soybean paste, with the fiery kick of Gochujang. Doenjang brings its distinct umami depth while Gochujang, a red chili paste, adds some sweet heat. Toss in green onion and garlic for extra flavor, and balance it out with 2 tsp of honey or agave syrup. A drizzle of 1 ½ tbsp of sesame oil ties it all together. This sauce is your ticket to elevating your pork belly experience to a whole new level of flavor excitement. I’m sure you’ll love it!
What are Doenjang and Gochujang?
Doenjang and Gochujang stand as twin pillars in Korean cuisine, each contributing its own unique character to its gallery of flavors. Doenjang, a fermented soybean paste, presents a rich umami flavor that forms the heart of many Korean dishes. With its depth and complexity, Doenjang imprints an timeless and authentic flavor to soups, stews, and sauces that provides each bite with comforting warmth.
Gochujang, on the other hand, is a red-hot chili paste with a spicy kick. This paste is a harmonious blend of red chili peppers, rice, and fermented soybeans. The result is a deliciously savory, sweet, and spicy paste that never feels overpowering, and infuses many dishes with a uniquely Korean flavor. These two culinary heavyweights, Doenjang and Gochujang, embody the art of balance in Korean cooking and are a must-have in your pantry if you enjoy preparing Korean-inspired dishes.
You can find Doenjang and Gochujang at Korean or Asian grocery stores. They may also be available at the Asian section of chain supermarkets or can be bought online. I procure mine at Kimchi Mart in Pembroke Pines, Fl.
